It is no coincidence that we placed the "heart" of America in America's Heartland.  The "heart" certainly doesn't belong on the Atlantic, Pacific or Gulf Coast states.  Because you see, the "heart" of America is embedded, for the most part, with people who are honorable, steadfast, self-reliant, independent, industrious, responsible and highly productive, that just happen to live on the land.  The Heartland is mostly the red states.  It consists of waving fields of grain, snow-capped mountains and rich valleys kept moist by a million creeks, rivers, lakes and marsh lands.  And then there is the high desert where the cattle roam, that feeds our inescapable need for life-giving protein.  The Heartland feeds all of America and at least one-third of the rest of the world.  It now produces massive amounts of corn to be refined into ethanol, as an additive to the liquid energy that fuels our cars and trucks.

There is something different about folks living on the land, that sets them apart from those who live in large cities.  Field of vision and bountiful space allows rural landowners to "see" a lot farther than the home owner who is crammed into a neighborhood of a thousand homes.  In contrast to big cities that yield under the yoke of anger, crime and pollution, the American Heartland hums along like a well-oiled machine, because the people that call these vast plains, valleys and mountains their home, still believe in a strong work ethic and the all-consuming truly American desire to solve their own problems, without asking for help.  When a major snow blizzard attacks the upper mid-west, somehow those folks manage to get through it without calling on the government for help, as did the seemingly helpless and hapless folks of New Orleans.  When calamity strikes, these proud Americans of the Heartland immediately find the resources and start to re-build, knowing full well that to give up in the face of adversity, is to die in mind and spirit.

But what they really want is to be left alone, to live out their lives as free men and women and to raise their children under liberty's abundance.  What they want is the inalienable, God-given rights, as promised by our constitution, to be scrupulously preserved, protected and defended by our government, whose keepers of the power must swear on solemn oath to do just that.  What they want is to pass on the strong American qualities of self-reliance and independence to their children.  What they want is the property and wealth they have built up over years of fighting the vagaries of weather and fluctuating markets, to be passed on to their offspring, unencumbered by draconian environmental regulations and without 55% of it being stolen by the government as an inheritance tax, even after paying taxes on their income for their entire adult life.  What these brave, courageous and industrious people of America's Heartland want, is what every American man, woman and child should want, whether urban or rural.  To be free in a land of liberty.  To be free to prosper.  Or, to be free to fail and rise up out of the ashes on their own.  There is nothing more exhilarating or self-satisfying, than beating the odds and winning, using your own prowess, main strength and awkwardness to prevail.

Mostly we owe our freedom to one man, George Washington.   He led a rag-tag, disheveled and poorly equipped army on a hit-and-run battle against the most powerful army and navy on Earth at the time.  Some have declared his victory, providential.  Whether providential or not, we owe our very freedom and liberty to his leadership and to his steadfast devotion to duty, honor and country.  While the Continental Congress hid in the shadows, ran from the enemy and deprived George of the men, materials and the money he needed, he persevered anyway, until the enemy was defeated.  Now that same Congress, of a totally different breed of men and women, in direct violation of our constitution, buy votes with our tax money from disaffected Americans who have lost their will to be free.  Most of those Americans who have forsaken freedom for a government handout and who have lost their independence and individual pride, live in the big cities of blue states.

Nevertheless, In this great land of ours, there are still men like George Washington who recognize not only our foundation of law in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, but who are willing to sacrifice whatever is necessary to preserve that foundation.  For they know that without it, we move ever closer towards the quivering, bottomless quicksand of abject socialism and ultimately, human bondage.

The men and women of the land in the "heart" of America are still pumping the life blood of sustenance and freedom for each of us.  That "heart" holds in its hard-working hands, the fragile existence of liberty.  If we let the "heart" become infected with the disease of nanny government, that blood of freedom will turn cold and the country it nourishes will slowly wither away, as the ravages of a cold, heartless winter, disintegrate a fallen leaf.

So like the men, women and children of the Heartland, regain your pride and purpose, quit looking for a government solution and be proud that you are an American.  As no other culture that ever existed since civilization began some 5,000 years ago, has ever offered to all the peoples of the Earth, as much as the indomitable spirit of America and the American people.

The measure of a man is what he does under adversity.  Does he seek honor, or does he stoop to depravity?  For 230 years, for the most part, most Americans seek honor, even when surrounded on all sides by adversity.  That desire to seek honor instead of depravity, is the direct result of living in a land of liberty.

God Bless and long live America.  And long live America's freedom and liberty, for it is the promise of freedom for all of mankind.  Our place in history is secure, if and only if, we maintain and carry on the ideals of the brave souls that created America, in a time of confusion, conflict and turmoil.  The rest of the world looks to America for their salvation, whether they admit it or not.  We are Atlas, because we bear on our shoulders all that is good in mankind and all that is good rests on a solid foundation of individual freedom.

We here at NARLO, are one of those groups who seek both honor and freedom.  If only there were more Americans who believed as we do and were willing to support our efforts and the efforts of the few others who refuse to stand in the shadows and defend liberty.

If not us, then whom?  If you believe as we do, then let it be you too!

"THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RURAL LANDOWNERS"

The National Association of Rural Landowners (NARLO) is a non-profit corporation, duly licensed in the State of Washington.  It was formed in response to draconian land use ordinances that were passed by King County in Washington State (Seattle) in the late Fall of 2004, after vociferous opposition from rural landowners.  NARLO's mission is to begin the long process of restoring, preserving and protecting Constitutional property rights and returning this country to a Constitutional Republic.  Government has done a great job of dividing us up into little battle groups where we are essentially impotent at a national level.  We will change all that with the noisy voices and the vast wealth tied up in the land of the American rural landowner.  The land is our power, if we will just use that power, before we lose it.  We welcome donations and volunteers who believe as we do, that government abuses against rural landowners have gone on for far too long and a day of reckoning is at hand.  To learn more, visit our website at www.narlo.org.

President Roosevelt, in his 1933 inaugural address said, “…. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”.  I maintain that the only thing we have to fear is unbridled government.  The only way unbridled government can exist is if WE THE PEOPLE allow it.
