Coincidence?

by JIM BEERS

Note: I think this letter to the Wall Street Journal has some relevance for those
of us facing environmental and animal rights extremism. Jim

Andrew Roberts’ “Britain Goes Wobbly on Terror” about current British rejection of the Osama affair with comparison’s to Britain’s’ WWII behavior was informative and insightful. The comparisons to Mussolini’s burial rights, the demonization of America’s failure to notify the UN, and “gun-toting Yanks” are all indeed reminiscent of pre-war Britain’s attitudes and how they changed overnight into the overwhelming support for Winston Churchill’s policies and stirring words in the House of Commons, May 1940, “What is our policy?... Victory – victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.”

Is it some sort of divine coincidence that your front page article “President To Renew Muslim Outreach” in the same edition evokes Neville Chamberlain’s search for that elusive and meaningless paper from “Mr. Hitler” rather than the morale boost and coming-together that Mr. Roberts reminds us came from Winston Churchill?
